Javid and Tommy at VIR
Trackmonkey Racing's winter testing continued Feb 17-19 with the Javid Kelley/Thomas Lyman duo attending NASA's VIR weekend in the Time Trial STi. Lyman tested on Friday under ideal conditions and received NASA certification as a HPDE instructor. An overnight cold front saw most of Kelley's testing Saturday in a snow storm, and the team used the weather to their advantage, working on a wet set-up while trying to stay dry and warm. Sunday brought even colder temperatures at the famed circuit, which is a highlight of the One Lap of America competition, and Kelly was able to dial in some quick times, with a focus on consistency. Sunday also saw the team at the Patriot Course, within VIR's Grand circuit, with US Drift. In between sliding runs, the STi was able to take a few hot runs around the short track, mainly to learn the line and look for reference points. Pictures are located in the gallery. March will hopefully bring warmer temperatures and a new turbo upgrade for the STi, and the Kelley/Lyman pair plan to attack some autocrosses in the Atlanta area.
On the T2 front, the first race for the car and Tom Hoppe has been delayed until April 1st at the SARRC Double at Carolina Motorsports Park. The car will be receiving a set of TopSpeed custom struts by then and should be 100% complete for T2 action. While its a late start to the season, the action will be non-stop as after the CMP event, Tom will compete in the April 22nd SARRC Double at Roebling Road followed by the Mat 7th National at Daytona.
